Abstract
As the demand for high-quality broad-band services emerges, the reliability of the asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network providing these services and the underlying SDH (SONET) network transporting the ATM traffic is an important performance parameter which should be taken into account when planning and designing the network. In this paper a prototype of a multilayer network analysis tool is presented for the evaluation of network availability. The tool calculates network survivability metrics in the various layers of a network, yielding results which can be used to assess the reliability of a planned network.
