Abstract
The propagation behaviour of a cylindrical waveguide loaded centrally by a coaxial chiral rod is investigated by a boundary value procedure. Numerical results for the axial phase constant as a function of the normalised outer radius of the cylindrical waveguide, chiral rod diameter and chiral admittance parameter are presented for the modes with azimuthal indices of n=1, n=-1 and n=0. Application of these results to the material characterisation problem is discussed and compared with the problem of a cylindrical waveguide that is internally coated with a chiral material
