  • Abstract
The correct detection of binary frequency-shift-keying (f.s.k.) signals is fundamental to the attainment of optimum error performance in both coded and noncoded systems employing f.s.k. signalling. When limiter-discriminator (f.m.) detection is employed, the parameters of the detector to be determined are the bandwidth of the i.f. filter Bif, and the type and bandwidth Blp of the post-detection lowpass filter. The paper illustrates the importance of transient-response considerations in the determination of these parameters. The resulting error probabilities are compared with the optimum obtained, using incoherent matched-filter detection for a random phase-channel disturbed by white Gaussian noise.
