Abstract :
This paper presents a new voltmeter designed for measuring the peak voltage of an extremely narrow impulse. The voltmeter consists of a conventional single-stage, or a cascaded 2-stage pulse-lengthener circuit, and a single-stage wideband amplifier. By means of the voltmeter, the peak voltage of an impulse as narrow as 30ns can be measured. The measurable peak ranges from +1 to +7V. The 1% decay time of the meter reading, following the fall of the applied impulse, is as long as 18s, and so the reading of the meter need not be unnecessarily hurried.
