Abstract
A single-phase active power filter (APF) based on 3D current co-ordinates is presented. Using correlation techniques, a system´s power can be decomposed into three components: the active, fundamental reactive and distorted power. Each decomposed component is displayed in 3D current co-ordinates. As a result, a new 3D power factor is introduced as an alternative to the standard definition of the power factor. The developed system also operates as a harmonic and reactive power compensator. Harmonic compensation and analysis of the system´s power can be accomplished simultaneously. A TMS320C31 digital signal processor is used for the real-time control of the APF. The experimental results support the conclusion that the developed system is highly accurate at analysing the system´s power and performs well in controlling the APF
