Abstract :
A two-stage erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) with extremely flat gain (/spl plusmn/0.1 dB) over 17-nm bandwidth is demonstrated. The gain flatness is achieved by incorporating samarium-doped fiber in the mid section of the amplifier.
