  • Abstract
    An image database management system has been constructed utilizing an image navigation directory. The image navigation directory (IND) has new functions of distributing uniformly high quality images to video display terminals (VDTs) which generally have different display characteristics. One of the functions is to convert natural pictures to those having optimum gamma. The other is to convert character images to those having optimum contrast. When the converted images are distributed and displayed on various VDTs, natural pictures are reproduced in high quality and character images are reproduced in less visual fatigue. In this study, the image database management system was found to be able to distribute any image having different optical characteristics to any VDT keeping quality high and uniform when it takes more display parameters into consideration
