Abstract :
The mechanism by which heat is lost from ferrite cores in storage planes is very uncertain. In this paper an attempt is made to investigate this heat-loss process by evaluating the thermal equivalent circuit of a 0.050in core in an unlacquered coincident-current storage plane in still air. The thermal equivalent circuit is found to depend only on the dimensions of the core and the wires. The circuit thermal impedances for a 0.050in core are given. Temperature rises of different sized cores of similar shape and material are compared, and thermal time constants are discussed.
