Abstract :
Measurements of the breakdown voltages between 2cm-diameter brass, stainless-steel, and irradiated gold-plated stainless-steel spheres using direct, alternating and 1/50¿s impulse voltages with electrode gaps of up to 0.05cm are reported. In the absence of external irradiation, considerable scatter in the results was found, but, with irradiation, consistent behaviour was found.
