Abstract :
David H. Mooney, Jr., AESS memeber, a Fellow of the IEEE and the 1984 IEEE Pioneer Award winner, died in Catonsville, Maryland, USA at the age of 71 on March 11, 1998. His pioneering work in the 1950´s and 1960´s led to the development of the world´s first pulse doppler radar. He developed many radar systems, including those used in the BOMARC long-range interceptor missile, the AWACS E-3A surveillance aircraft, the B1 bomber, and the F-16 jet fighter. His work is briefly reviewed.
