Abstract :
The OFDM transmission scheme is an efficient technique to overcome frequency-selective nature of wireless broadband channels. Different from existing methods which largely focus on data rate maximization, in this paper we investigate resource allocation schemes to improve bit error rate (BER) performance in a point-to-point OFDM system subject to both throughput and transmit power constraints. Specifically, we optimize power and rate for each subcarrier to minimize the average BER of the system with total power and rate constraints. Beside numerical results, which compare the performance of different schemes, we develop some suboptimal methods with low computational complexity and closed form formula to be used in practical implementation.
