  • Abstract
An exciting line carrying a current of arbitrary time-dependency is located above a metal plate of rectangular cross-section. Since the plane transient shielding problem is treated in time-domain by an integral equation, the eigenvalue problem of this equation has to be solved. For that the eigenfunctions are expressed by a set of orthogonal functions which transforms the eigenvalue problem of the integral equation into an eigenvalue problem of the corresponding kernel matrix. Therefore the time-dependency of the problem can be solved by the help of Laplace´s transform. The transient eddy currents inside the screen are calculated as a series of products of locus-dependent eigenfunctions and time-dependent exponential functions. The screening behaviour of the system is investigated by comparing the total magnetic field with the magnetic field in absence of the screen
