Abstract :
The Optimized Material Distribution (OMD) method for the design of electromagnetic devices can provide a topological structure and details of materials and excitations for a device to meet a set of specification. The large design space results in a slow convergence to the solution. The application of image processing techniques relatively early in the process allows the design space to be reduced and conventional shape optimization to be applied to the structure. This can result in major improvements in the performance of the design system
