  • Abstract
The authors present a specific modelling method using 2D field calculations which can be used to study a system composed of different electromagnetic structures which are electrically and mechanically coupled. The interactions between the structures can be studied in the magnetodynamic field by coupling the magnetic, electrical and mechanical equations. The method is applied to a line-start permanent magnet drive composed of a PM synchronous machine and an induction machine whose phase windings are series connected. The skewing of rotor bars is modelled by using the multi-slice 2D method. The performance of the modelling method is validated by comparing the simulated and experimental results
