Abstract :
This paper will present an analysis of energy consumption of the image compressor recommended by The Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS), CCSDS 122.0-B-1, using two different platforms. The first platform will run the algorithm using only the CPU, while the second will use the help of a GPU. Next, two three-dimensional curves can be plotted in terms of rate-distortion-energy. With this, it´s possible to compare the energy efficiency of each platform, where gains in number of encoded images can be observed using the help of the GPU (24% more encoded images in some cases). Finally, an analysis including the time expenditure will be made, where gains around 29.1% are observed.
