Abstract
A mode of description for multiple-valued logic systems is presented which is based on the familiar Galois field structures. It is demonstrated that the flexibility of the resulting modular algebras makes them highly suitable for this application. The relationship between the operational behaviour of a circuit and its standard form of algebraic representation is investigated, and a transform method is devised which enables the one to be deduced from the other. Similar techniques are also developed for evolving certain well defined related forms of a given function which serve both as the basis for a synthesis procedure and as a classification system.
