Typically, HV standby batteries live for most of their lives on float charge, providing that all important insurance in the event of power loss. When called on to deliver power in an emergency, it is essential that, if they are to perform to expectation and provide adequate cover, they must be balanced. The author looks at the importance of ensuring that a HV battery system is balanced
