Abstract
This article investigates the use of Ethernet/Internet Protocol (IP) communications protocol for data acquisition and the control of electrical networks in an industrial environment. A survey of the existing topologies for interface is shown, together with the configurations that are possible using Ethernet/IP standards. The possibility of integrated control of the electrical system into a utilities control network is discussed. The benefits that can be derived from the use of high-speed communications such as Ethernet/IP to monitor and control electrical systems are discussed.
