Abstract :
The publication of IEEE Network marks a major step toward the merging of the two network cultures that have evolved from serving the needs of telephony and computer communications. My own career has its roots in the telephone side of communications so my views of the great value of this new publication are from that perspective. I intend to be an avid reader of IEEE Network so that I can better understand the needs of those who use computer communications networks and to see better the opportunities to unify networks to satisfy all communications needs.
