Abstract
Lop Nur is a typical area of the extreme drought areas in western China. The famours “Ear” feature of Lop Nur lake basin was discovered by Landsat-1 in 1972. It is obviously that satellite imagery have great advantages in monitoring macro-scale geological phenomena. Polarimetric SAR interferometry (PolInSAR) technology, which is a rapidly developing research method, is used in this study. With the full-polarimetric RADARSAT-2 data and RVoG model, the thickness inversion of upper dry dielectric layer of Lop Nur lake basin has been carried out. In this study, The experimental results indicate that SAR data and PolInSAR method has great application potential in the Lop Nur area. Moreover, the thickness coefficient calculated in this study will be vital reference for the future research on thickness of dielectric layer in this dried up lake basin.
