Abstract :
The paper presents a modal theory of state observers for the control of certain classes of multivariable time-invariant linear systems whose plant matrices possess distinct eigenvalues and whose state variables are not all available for feedback. It is shown that the theory leads to an algorithm which greatly facilitates the design of state observers whose dynamical characteristics may be arbitrarily prescribed.
