Abstract
On August 23, 2000, the XXth International LINAC Conference dedicated the morning session as a memorial to Dr. Daniel Birx, who died in a private plane crash last March at the age of 45. At the peak of his career, Dan was one of the most talented, productive and innovative contributors to the fields of pulse power and linear induction accelerator technologies. Dan not only displayed a comprehensive understanding of physics theory and principles, but also had a rare and remarkable talent for applying those principles to the development of practical hardware and experiments. The expeditious way in which he could turn novel ideas into working hardware was truly remarkable. A brief biography of Dr. Daniel Birx is given highlighting his professional achievements.
