Abstract :
This paper is devoted to the study of a new triggering scheme for discharge initiation of vacuum switches. The device, which mainly comprises a carbon bridge, is characterized by its low dimension and energy consumption. Fast imaging techniques coupled to electric measurements and spectroscopic investigations have allowed us to characterize the spatiotemporal evolution of the physical processes resulting in the triggering
