Abstract
The paper describes a mathematical model for studying power-system frequency control. The model provides the basis for economical calculation of frequency transients of up to ten minutes´ duration, enabling problems associated with the dynamic balance of generation and load to be studied. The use of test results to establish confidence in the model is described. An account is given of two recent applications: a study of pumpedstorage-plant dynamic-response requirements, and a study of the application of load-shedding relays.
