Abstract
The author discusses the status of liquid-crystal displays (LCDs) and assesses their ability to replace cathode-ray tubes. He examines advances in large-panel circuit fabrication and materials engineering that are needed before this can happen. He discusses manufacturing technology and the potential market for LCDs.<>
