Abstract :
40 GHz active modelocking of monolithic semiconductor lasers integrated with electroabsorption modulators and chirped gratings is reported. Chirped gratings are shown to compensate for the wavelength chirp and extend the frequency range. Nearly transform-limited pulses of <4 ps are generated over a wide range of frequencies from 38 to 41 GHz
