Abstract :
Baseband signal formatting is essential for data transmission in order to reduce energy dissipation, provide good spectral efficiency and protect against loss of synchronisation. Most of the present schemes such as AMI, NRZ, pseudoternary, etc. perform in terms of amplitude discrimination or `north-south dichotomy´. An innovative scheme based on `east-west dichotomy´ is described. It gives robust performance in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels, protects against loss of synchronisation, and gives good spectral performance
