Abstract :
Large single-grain bulk superconductor has significant potential for industrial applications because it can trap high magnetic fields. However, when the superconductor endured the magnetization processes, the enormous mechanical stresses are imposed on the bulk, which often lead to cracking. In this paper, the magnetic response of a slab type-II superconductor to an applied magnetic field is described by solving the Bean model and viscous flux flow equation simultaneously. The stress profiles with different applied fields and flux velocities are presented for a complete field cycle after zero-field cooling.
