Abstract
A numerical finite-difference method is used to obtain the 3-dimensional magnetic field, and hence the eddy-current loss, in a composite subconductor containing ribbons of high resistivity that spiral along the axis of the conductor. It is shown that this type of construction, if it proves to be mechanically feasible, can result in an appreciable reduction in the local eddy-current losses.
