Abstract
The paper presents a first attempt to use permeance and excitation harmonic techniques to analyse the performance of short-stator induction motors. The method is applied particularly to arc-stator induction machines but is also applicable to linear motors. It is hoped that the treatment will be of value in assessing some proposed techniques of gap shaping at the exit edge of such machines. The work is supported by experimental results from an arc-stator induction motor.
