Abstract :
The conventional method of recording video signals is to use frequency modulation. It is anticipated that the analogue methods, used generally in studio centres and for transmission throughout the network, will become digital in due course. After having considered standards for digital processing and transmission, it became apparent that digital video tape recorders might be a `bottleneck¿ in terms of bit rate, and might use much more tape than analogue recorders. The paper reports on some features of the work, intended to prove, or disprove, the feasibility of a method of digital recording that uses no more tape than conventional analugue recorders.
