Abstract :
The paper discusses the application of pulse-code modulation (p.c.m.) techniques to Pal video signals. The choice of sampling frequency is considered, and particular emphasis is laid on simple multiples of the subcarrier frequency. An account is given of factors determining the bit rate required for simple p.c.m. and for when differential-p.c.m. and transform-coding methods are employed. Finally, a possible method for interfacing between composite and component coding systems is described.
