Abstract :
Electrode polarization in polymeric dielectrics is considered, and a simple model that describes the processes phenomenologically and accounts for the observable manifestations of this type of polarization is suggested. Notwithstanding the fact that certain significant parameters characterizing the model are obtained from a single type of measurement, e.g. the time dependence of the charging current after the application of a step voltage, other phenomena, such as the discharge or recovery voltage, thermally stimulated current, the frequency dependence of permittivity, and loss factor, all related to the electrode polarization, can be predicted. The model is applied to measurements on epoxy resin and polyimide to illustrate its usefulness
