Abstract
An experimental controller is described in which the load is supplied through a series paraformer inductance. By rapid modulation of the inductance within the supply cycle a good waveform can be supplied to the load, when the source has an impaired waveform. The same rapid modulation can be arranged to nullify the voltage drop in the series element at the supply frequency; power control is then effected by switching between this ideal `on-state¿ and an `off state¿ for which the series inductance is maximised.
