Abstract :
Advanced sensor technologies can help keep aging transmission and distribution systems in good condition. Electricity is the lifeblood of our economy, as it provides comfort and makes possible most of our recreational activities. In addition to the unwavering expectation of making electricity available at any time, we recognize the technical and economic challenges for meeting this expectation as the electric grid is operated closer to its physical limits and major power-delivery components reach the end of their expected lifetimes.
