Abstract
This paper illustrates a relatively direct and sequential method of performing reliability calculations in transmission and distribution systems. The equations provided in the paper are utilised through a minimal-cut-set approach to failure modes and effects analysis, and can be used to obtain quantitative reliability indices in a wide range of systems. The equations, though complex in appearance, are fairly simple in their formulation and utilise only simple mathematical operations. This results in very efficient computer utilisation, since the equations can be permanently stored, and used when required. The application of the concepts presented in the paper are illustrated by the analysis of two practical system examples.
