Abstract :
A theory is presented which shows that close-to-carrier noise sidebands on a pump couple onto a signal being amplified by a parametric amplifier so that the signal also acquires noise sidebands. The appropriate coupling coefficients are derived. Experiments are described which confirm the accuracy of the maximum coefficients to within 3 db.
