Abstract :
Requirements and possible configurations for a SMES operating in 15 kV substations are discussed. The system will experience /spl sim/25 full discharges a year. Such a SMES system should provide 1 to 2 second-ride through capability, a response time of less than 8 milliseconds, and demonstrate a high efficiency.
