  • Abstract
In a recent book [M.M. Weiner, 2006], three approaches were presented in Parts I, II, and III, respectively, for the detection of signals in a competing external electromagnetic environment that may be both nonhomogeneous and spatially non-Gaussian. These approaches were Approach A, homogeneous partitioning of the surveillance volume; Approach B, adaptive antennas (space-time adaptive processing); and Approach C, adaptive receivers. These approaches were thought by the editor [of the book] to be sequentially complimentary fl, p. vi.]. Consequently, Approaches A + B + C would offer the maximum probability of detection for weak signals [1, p. vii].
