Abstract
The present paper highlights the improvement and effective application of a classical technique, based on co-ordination equations, that not only provides better economy in the cost of generation but is also suitable for real-time application to economic load dispatch (e.l.d.) aspects of power systems. Fast Newton-Raphson technique is used for load flow (l.f.) and the Jacobian matrix is used for directly computing the penalty factors thus making the e.l.d. algorithm suitable for real-time application. The effectiveness of the new approach to the classical technique is demonstrated through a sample 14-bus IEEE test system by comparing its performance with those of recently developed hessian quadratic programming and improved loss-formula-coefficients techniques.
