Abstract :
A new approach to power semiconductor circuits is described, which offers the possibility of extending the range of application of presently available power semiconductor devices. This is achieved by employing a technique called ´shorting-coil´ switching, in which power flow in a main circuit can be regulated by switching in auxiliary circuits called shorting coils.
