Abstract :
An improved lossless image coder is introduced which is based on suboptimal, adaptive multiplicative autoregressive models. Basically the improvements result from the incorporation of three new elements: a backward block-by-block parameter estimator, a probability model for the residuals, and a contextual entropy coder. The results of a comparative experimental study indicate that on average the improved coder delivers ~7% higher compression than the old scheme
