Abstract :
Passive optical network (PON) is a telecommunication network which is characterized by point to multipoint architecture. This has the advantage of huge bandwidth potential to optical fiber to bring high data rate and speed. Exponential growth in population increases the demand of bandwidth and power. This can be overcome by proper designing of downstream sleep scheduling scheme for PON. The scheme turns off the (Optical Network Unit) ONU, when there is no transmission of data between (Optical Line Terminal) OLT and ONU. The aim of this paper is to increase sleep time for delay sensitive and delay insensitive traffic by proposed new fuzzy based sleep scheduling scheme. A fuzzy rule table is constructed with prediction of next inter arrival time of frame and wake up time on the basis of outcome sleep time is evaluated. The proposed method offer effective sleep scheduling than previous inter arrival time method.
