Abstract :
The termination of an HTS cable is done in liquid nitrogen and air, it has to endure thermal contraction in addition to providing electrical insulation. Therefore, such a termination should not only keep the potential gradient at the front side of the insulation uniform but should also be completely sealed from the atmosphere and should provide thermal stability under worst case operating conditions. In this paper, the insulation properties of termination were investigated. Based on these experimental data, the electrical insulation design of termination for a 22.9 kV class HTS cable was performed.
