Abstract
The Address traces the development of electronics from the late 19th century to the present day. The revolutionary change in electronics caused by the Second World War is described, and notable discoveries and inventions in electron devices in the last 70 years are mentioned. In the last two decades, a technological `explosion¿ has been witnessed in electronics, and highlights such as transistors, television expansion, satellites, computers, lasers and microelectronics are discussed. The history of electrical engineering education over the years is traced and is shown to have parallelled developments in the electrical manufacturing industry. Some consideration is given to the question: `What do all the developments in electronics imply for education?¿
