Abstract :
The recently agreed upon synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) standard, which will provide a means to manage, multiplex, and access various forms of digital traffic in an economical and efficient manner, is described, and it is explained how radio systems can be deployed in SDH networks. This is followed by a discussion on the technical requirements for SDH digital radio relay system equipment. Frequency planning issues are considered. Gross transmission capacities that can be realized for various options of modulation schemes and RF channel spacing are discussed.<>
