Abstract :
A highly sensitive interferometric method to measure beat length of fibres with high or low birefringence is described. The method does not require any mechanical perturbation to the fibre and can accurately measure temporal group delay between polarisation modes of a 0.5 m fibre with a birefringence as low as Δn=3.64×10-8 or a beat length of 36
