Abstract :
It is experimentally confirmed that Raman amplification with multi-wavelength pumping sources enables the pass bandwidth to be expanded to 33 nm even over transoceanic distances. It is also shown that the transmission performance of Raman amplifiers, which is dominated by not only OSNR but nonlinear effects, is superior to that of EDFAs
