Abstract :
Coloured noise is conveniently generated by passing white noise through an appropriate filter. A novel way of initialising the filter to avoid adding an unwanted startup transient onto the desired output is presented. It is demonstrated that the proposed procedure is numerically and computationally superior to a direct solution of the corresponding discrete-time Lyapunov equation. The procedure can be applied to any filter architecture
