Abstract :
AEG-Telefunken began developing computers in 1957. By 1974, 46 of its TR 440s were installed, with a total retail value of more than US$250 million. At its start, the TR 440 was the fastest computer ever designed in Europe, with system software features far ahead of its competitors. Nevertheless, computers were not a strategic product for AEG-Telefunken, and the TR 440´s development faced substantial difficulties.
